How do I know what model of suspension I have?

For most components the model name is obviously displayed on the product. Even Fox forks are clearly marked as a 32, 34, 36 or 40mm fork. These “mm” models names are based on the diameter of a forks stanchions. Fox, RockShox and Marzocchi can all be identified this way.
